Severe invasive Group A Strep disease now a ‘notifiable’ disease

From 1 October 2024, invasive group A streptococcal infection (iGAS) will become a notifiable disease in New Zealand, requiring health professionals to report confirmed or suspected cases. This move aims to strengthen disease monitoring and inform better health responses, as iGAS is a severe illness often requiring hospitalisation.
